Common questions about sourcing with us
How do you charge for sourcing?
Our fee structure depends on the type of engagement. Fee-for-service work, where you bring us in for a defined piece of the process, is quoted at a fixed price agreed before any work starts. When we take a product through the full pipeline as your partner, we instead work for a share of the profit it generates. That arrangement deliberately ties our outcome to yours: we earn when the product earns, which keeps our incentives pointed in the same direction as your own.
Do I need a finished design, or can you help develop it?
You don't need a finished design to begin. If you already have one, or a product that's been made before, we move straight into sourcing and manufacturing it. If you have an idea and little else, we can handle the product development first, taking it from concept through to a design a factory can actually build. The starting point only changes where we pick up, not whether we can help.
What's a typical timeline to receive goods?
There's no single answer, because the timeline is shaped by factors that differ for every product: how much development the design still needs, where it sits in a manufacturer's production queue, and the realities of freight and customs once it's made. Rather than quote a generic figure that won't hold, we give you a grounded estimate once we understand the specific product and where it stands.
Will you work with a factory I've already found?
We're happy to. If you already have a manufacturer you'd like to keep using, we can work through them, with one condition: they're subject to the same due diligence we'd apply to any factory of our own. We hold one quality standard regardless of who's producing the goods, so before we take responsibility for managing production through a factory, we need to satisfy ourselves that it can meet that standard.
Can I see the product before the full order is made?
In most cases, yes. The specifics of sampling are set by the manufacturer, but it's usually possible to have prototypes produced and shipped to you for review ahead of the full production run. That gives you the chance to examine the actual product in hand, and approve it, before committing to a full order.
What happens if there's a problem with the production run?
Handling that is a large part of why we exist. We act as the operator between you and the factory, which means when a run comes back wrong or something slips, resolving it is our responsibility, not yours. We manage the communication, hold the factory to the agreed standard, and work the problem directly, so you're never left trying to negotiate a remedy with a supplier on the other side of the world.
